Refined Living Room
Simply glamorous! This living room invites friends to come and socialize for the evening.
I designed this living room about 20 years ago and my client loved it! It was her taste at the time, along with the trend at that time but it was about 15 years overdue for a design makeover!
Too traditional, too dark, too over-accessorized and just too much! I felt we really had to start over to give her a new light and fresh look. Our client and her husband enjoy having dinner parties. Afterwards the ladies tend to congregate in this room. Comfortable seating for at least eight was needed. My plan was to re-invent this living room into a lounge.
My first decision was to lighten the room, requiring a soft taupe paint color (Sherwin William’s Loggia) and replacing the fireplace surround with marble subway tiles. This alone transformed the space! To again lighten the room, I chose the Candice Olsen area rug with a beige field and pattern in gold and taupe. To accommodate for seating, I chose a lounge sectional and 2 accent chairs, creating the “circle of friends” furniture arrangement. The cocktail ottoman is covered with a faux animal skin vinyl, great for spills and just wonderful shine and texture. To really make this room a “lounge”, we added the gold metal bar cart for displaying and storage of wine and accessories.
The organic agate stone wall art along with the aqua and yellow art above the mantle were focal points, but the client’s personal contribution are her little elephant accents. She uses this room now more than ever…. she loves it … again!
