Elegant Master Bedroom

My clients are young professionals, with two high school children & two toddlers. They wanted to focus on their master bedroom, creating an inviting peaceful retreat for the two of them. The home they just bought is about 50 years old with 8′ ceilings and dated wallpaper. Other than the sleigh bed and antique chest, nothing else was staying. Privacy was an issue and the floor plan had few options.

Design Solutions Provided

Our clients wanted the space to be cozy, sexy and to have a sense of tranquility. We started with the rich, light cobalt walls, warm but comfortable. We wanted to keep the windows soft by using drapery and Roman shades, made of textural fabrics. The shades are unlined, and give a soft glow to the room during the day while the drapery are lined for privacy at night. 

The room is approximately 21′ X 15′, allowing for 2 lounge areas….one with a settee for both of them, and the other with a single chair to relax and read in…. in both areas we also included ottomans for leg and feet comfort. Although they own a business and have a home office, we included a small desk area for those last minute emails after retiring for the night. There is no television in the room, as they enjoy their time alone reading and talking. 

Due to the neutral color palette, the bedding is textural, along with the upholstery fabrics. A large storage ottoman was made for the foot of the bed, for both blankets and a place to lay the shams, etc. at night. The room was completed with a sculptural metal tree wall art above the bed …. adding texture and a soft natural element to a more contemporary room. A little “life” was added by the placement of the tree, fern and paperwhites. 

Our clients now LOVE their own space, away from the adventure of parenting.
