Dramatic Dining
Our client wanted a fabulous functional and modern style kitchen. She loves to cook and entertain and also loves lots of color, so wanted this to reflect her sense of color drama.
Problems Addressed
The home is traditionally styled with a bay window and sliding glass doors. Since this home is in Texas, abundant light shines through the sliders, although privacy was not an issue. The work island was very small for food preparation and serving. Total room space for both dining, service and kitchen was very limited. The long wall in the dining area was too large for small wall art.
Bonnie’s Solutions
The color of the walls was selected first even before the kitchen design was complete. Knowing the cabinets would be white, the walls needed to be bright and dramatic, leading us to this bright blue teal. The sliding glass doors needed coverage for light and heat control, particularly in the summer months. I chose this textural “nature inspired” leaf design in off white. The small island was replaced with a multi purpose large island, featuring the stove, expanded prep area, and seating and service counter space.
Due to the sleek and modern look of the kitchen, I wanted to added some natural elements to the room. I chose a natural edge “tree slice” table, and complimented it with warm clay comfy chairs. The square seated counter stools swivel for convenience and enjoyment. To add visual interest, without breaking up the long wall, I chose this vivid mural and had it framed, making a focal point and beautiful backdrop for the dining area.
